چکیده

DNA Microarrays are used to analyse the DNA sequence of an organism. They are used to determine the activation levels of DNA sections within the entire DNA sequence. These microarrays consist of many spots, one for each DNA section, that give off light in proportion to the activation level of that DNA section. Microarray scanning equipment is used to determine light intensity at each of the spots on a DNA microarray. This thesis examines the feasibility of using standard CMOS technology for imaging a DNA microarray. It explains the design of a CMOS Imager and the construction of a microarray scanner using this CMOS chip. The results are compared with a commercial microarray scanner. The detection limit for the commercial scanner is 4.49 fluorophores/um and 4590 fluorophores/um for the proposed microarray scanner. The detection limit of the proposed scanner is set by various non-idealities in its optical and mechanical components.

Concept for Image Intensifier with CMOS Imager Output Interface

A concept is described for the detection and location of transient objects, in which a “pixel-binary” CMOS imager is used to give a very high effective frame rate for the imager. The sensitivity to incoming photons is enhanced by the use of an image intensifier in front of the imager. For faint signals and a high enough frame rate, a single “image” typically contains only a few photon or noise ...

Fluorescence lifetime biosensing with DNA microarrays and a CMOS-SPAD imager

Fluorescence lifetime of dye molecules is a sensitive reporter on local microenvironment which is generally independent of fluorophores concentration and can be used as a means of discrimination between molecules with spectrally overlapping emission. It is therefore a potentially powerful multiplexed detection modality in biosensing but requires extremely low light level operation typical of bi...

A wide dynamic range CMOS imager with extended shunting inhibition image processing capabilities

A CMOS imager based on a novel mixed-mode VLSI implementation of biologically inspired shunting inhibition vision models is presented. It can achieve a wide range of image processing tasks such as image enhancement or edge detection via a programmable shunting inhibition processor. Its most important feature is a gain control mechanism allowing local and global adaptation to the mean input ligh...

A Cmos Imager with On-chip Temporal Filtering for Motion Pre-processing

Robust motion detection algorithms such as the motion energy model require temporal filtering at the pixel level. We have designed and tested a CMOS imager with integrated, pixel-level temporal filtering necessary for motion detection. This temporal filtering enhances transients and provides a delayed and non-delayed channel for each pixel in the array. By varying bias currents on the chip, we ...

Low Light CMOS Contact Imager with an Integrated Poly-Acrylic Emission Filter for Fluorescence Detection

This study presents the fabrication of a low cost poly-acrylic acid (PAA) based emission filter integrated with a low light CMOS contact imager for fluorescence detection. The process involves the use of PAA as an adhesive for the emission filter. The poly-acrylic solution was chosen due its optical transparent properties, adhesive properties, miscibility with polar protic solvents and most imp...
